GREEN BAY – The 2013 WIAA State Girls Volleyball Tournament concluded Saturday as four champions were crowned at the Resch Center.
All four divisional state champions won the first girls volleyball title in its school’s history.
Wausau Newman Catholic won the Division 4 state championship with a 3-0 (25-21, 25-19, 25-20) sweep of Clayton. It is Newman’s first state title and its fifth appearance. The Cardinals were the Division 4 runner-up last year and in 2009.
In Division 3, Eau Claire Regis won its first state title with a 3-1 (25-22, 25-17, 18-25, 25-20) win over Auburndale.
In Division 2, East Troy defeated Madison Edgewood 3-0 for its first state title. East Troy had only made it to state once, in 1987. Edgewood was the D-2 runner-up for the second straight season.
Menomonee Falls swept Westosha Central in the Division 1 championship match to take its first state championship.
