STRATFORD – The Stratford boys basketball team overcame a 10-point halftime and defeated Chequamegon 46-43 in a Marawood Conference crossover game Friday night at Stratford High School.
Drew Bruesewitz made two free throws in the final minute to give Stratford a 44-41 lead.
After a basket by Robert Schienebeck with 17 seconds left for Chequamegon cut the Tigers’ lead back to one, the Screaming Eagles had a chance to win it following a missed free throw from Stratford, but they missed a jumper in the final second and fouled on the rebounding attempt. Henry Zaleski nailed two free throws with 0.1 second left to finish off the three-point win for Stratford.
Brady Schmidt led Stratford with 17 points, making five 3-pointers.
The Tigers shot just 27 percent (13-for-47), with nine of their made field goals coming from 3-point range.
Stratford (14-5, 8-4 Marawood Conference South Division) will have a week off before playing another Marawood crossover at Rib Lake on Friday, Feb. 9.
