Columbus Catholic boys basketball earn Cloverbelt East championship with win at Colby

COLBY – Seniors Emmitt Konieczny and Blake Jakobi each scored 18 points to lead the Columbus Catholic boys basketball team to a 77-61 win over Colby on Thursday night at Colby High School as the Dons clinched the Cloverbelt Conference East Division title.

With their win, combined with Neillsville’s loss to Owen-Withee, the Dons earn the outright conference title for the second time in the past three seasons.

The Dons led 32-26 at halftime before pulling away a 45-point second half.

Lucas Kreklau added 15 points and Charlie Moore scored 10 for the Dons, who are ranked No. 1 in the Wissports.net Division 5 state coaches poll, and improve to 20-1 overall and a perfect 12-0 in conference play.

Joseph Streveler had a game-high 25 points for Colby (10-10, 8-4 Cloverbelt East).

Columbus Catholic will play its final regular-season home game Tuesday against winless Greenwood (0-19, 0-12 Cloverbelt East).
