Wild Rose girls basketball player Cali Havlovitz has been voted the Grassland Dairy High School Athlete of the Month for January.
MarshfieldAreaSports.com & Zaleski Sports co-sponsor the award, which is in its 11th year. Grassland Dairy is the main sponsor for the 2023-24 school year.
Varsity athletes from the following high schools are eligible to be nominated for the award: Abbotsford, Amherst, Athens, Assumption, Auburndale, Colby, Columbus Catholic, D.C. Everest, Edgar, Granton, Greenwood, Iola-Scandinavia, Loyal, Marathon, Marshfield, Mosinee, Neillsville, Pacelli, Pittsville, Port Edwards, Rosholt, Spencer, Stratford, Stevens Point, Waupaca, Newman Catholic, Wild Rose, Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln and Wittenberg-Birnamwood.
Havlovitz received 2,477 of the nearly 6,000 votes cast during voting from Feb. 1-9 at MarshfieldAreaSports.com.
Other nominees for the January award were: Stevens Point boys basketball player Grant Chandonais, D.C. Everest wrestler Easton Cooper, Pittsville girls basketball player Reese Grimm and Columbus Catholic boys basketball player Emmitt Konieczny.
Havlovitz, a junior guard, scored at least 17 points in each of the Wildcats’ six games in January, including 26 in a blowout win over Northland Lutheran on Jan. 18. Havlovitz is averaging 18.9 points, 6.8 rebounds, five assists and nearly seven steals per game for Wild Rose, which is 13-5 this season.
Other winners of the award during the 2023-24 school sports year include: Marshfield volleyball player Abby Ongna (August), Stevens Point football player Jackson Spees (September), Edgar football player Karter Butt (October), Amherst girls basketball player Scout Spadoni (November) and Stevens Point Pacelli boys basketball player Camden Schurk (December).
