STRATFORD – Stratford had six pins, took advantage of two forfeits and won two other matches by major decision to knock off Athens 56-20 and clinch at least a share of the Marawood Conference wrestling regular-season title on Tuesday night at Stratford High School.
The Tigers improve to 6-0 in conference dual meets with one match left on Jan. 20 at Pittsville. Athens falls to 2-1.
Evan Bohman got the match off to a good start for Stratford, pinning Luke Peter in 5:26 on the 140-pound match.
Matt Zuelke (152), Mark Marquardt (160), Luke Radke (189), Andrew Murdaugh (285) and Steve Marquardt (130) also posted pins for the Tigers. Radke and Murdaugh gained pins in the first period of their matches.
Jake Kauth won 12-2 at 215 pounds and Alex Heiden won 20-12 at 112 to grab major decisions for Stratford.
The Tigers host their annual Triple Dual meet Friday against Spencer, Elcho and Wittenberg-Birnamwood.
