AMHERST – The Auburndale boys basketball team earned another tight road win, holding off Amherst 44-41 in a nonconference matchup Tuesday at Amherst High School.
The win is Auburndale’s eighth in a row and fourth this season by three points or less as it improves to 19-2 overall. Amherst falls to 8-14.
A 3-pointer by Amherst closed the Eagles lead to 42-41 with 4½ minutes to go and Auburndale would not give up another point the rest of the way.
Caleb Weinfurter twice made one of two free throws, including with 10 seconds to go, to push Auburndale’s lead to three and Amherst turned the ball over on its final possession to seal the win for the Eagles.
Spencer Cohen led Amherst with 19 points.
Auburndale hosts Edgar in a Marawood Conference South Division game Friday at 7:15 p.m.
