WISCONSIN RAPIDS – No. 7 seed Wisconsin Rapids scored three times in the final 3½ minutes of the first period and No. 10 Marshfield could not recover as the Raiders pulled away for a 6-1 win in a WIAA Division 1 boys hockey regional semifinal Tuesday night at the South Wood County Rec Center.
Tyson Vilbaum, Jax Pagel and Carsen Gause had goals late in the first period to turn a scoreless game into a big lead for Wisconsin Rapids.
After Tanner Shortt scored early in the second period for Marshfield, Pagel and Michael McDonald added goals in the final minute of the period to push the Raiders’ lead to four and the Tigers didn’t have an answer.
Marshfield finishes the season with a 10-15 record.
Wisconsin Rapids (15-7-1) advances to a Division 1 regional final at No. 2 seed Stevens Point (19-2-2) on Thursday at K.B. Willett Ice Arena. Click here for the statewide scoreboard and schedule.
