POYNETTE – The Stratford softball team split a pair of games at the Poynette Invitational on Saturday, losing to the host Poynette 4-0 before coming back for a 6-4 win over Fond du Lac St. Mary’s Springs.
Poynette pitcher Morgan Gunderson shut out Stratford in the opening game, striking out 12 and allowing just four hits.
Karly Rivette and Kassidy McCaffery each smacked home runs for the Pumas.
Tria Tubbs picked up the win for Stratford against St. Mary’s Springs, striking out nine.
Stratford scored three times in each of the opening two innings and held on from there.
Tubbs had two hits in each game for Stratford, which is now 4-1 this season.
Stratford will play its Marawood Conference South Division and home opener on Tuesday against Wausau Newman Catholic. The game at Hilgemann Field will start at 4:45 p.m.
