MAUSTON – The Columbus Catholic baseball team kicked off its 2024 season with a pair of resounding victories, taking care of Prentice 14-0 and Wabeno/Laona 11-1 on Saturday at the Woodside Sports Complex.
The Dons won both games in five innings via the 10-run rule.
In Game 1 against Prentice, the Dons scored 13 times in the third inning to break open a 1-0 game. Columbus Catholic took advantage of nine errors and 10 walks from Prentice, scoring 14 runs with only four hits.
Emmitt Konieczny had two of the hits and drove in two in the victory.
In Game 2, Columbus Catholic trailed 1-0 heading into the bottom of the third when it scored three times. The Dons added three more in the fourth and finished off the game with a five-run fifth.
Columbus Catholic again earned 10 walks at the plate and had six hits, including two by Cy Becker. Mac Konieczny had a pair of RBI in the win.
Columbus Catholic hosts Osseo-Fairchild for another nonconference game on Tuesday at 5 p.m. at Jack Hackman Field in Marshfield.
