Marathon overcomes five-run deficit to top Spencer baseball

MARATHON – Marathon scored seven times in the bottom of the sixth inning to complete a five-run comeback and defeat Spencer 16-6 in a nonconference baseball game Saturday afternoon at Marathon High School.

Spencer led 6-1 after 2½ innings before Marathon mounted a comeback, scoring multiple runs in its next four at-bats. The Raiders finished off the game via the 10-run rule with the seven-run sixth inning.

Spencer pitchers combined for 13 walks and the Rockets committed five errors in the loss, falling to 1-1 this season.

Tyler Peterson, Reed Knecht, Carter Luepke and Weston Nieman each had two hits for Spencer.

Spencer hosts Stratford for a nonconference game on Monday at 5 p.m.
