MARSHFIELD – Mac Konieczny tossed four shutout innings with nine strikeouts and added a pair of hits to lead the Columbus Catholic baseball team to a 6-4 win over Osseo-Fairchild in a nonconference game Tuesday at Safford Field.
The Dons struck first with three runs in the bottom of the first inning as Blake Jakobi scored on passed ball, and Cy Becker had an RBI single and later scored on an error.
Becker singled and scored on a ground out in the third to push Columbus Catholic’s lead to 4-0 before Osseo-Fairchild tried to mount a comeback.
The Thunder cut the deficit to 4-3 before the Dons plated a pair of runs in the sixth on RBI singles by Jakobi, who had three hits, and Mac Konieczny.
Emmitt Konieczny allowed one run in the top of the seventh before finishing off the win with a strikeout and earned the save for his younger brother Mac.
The Dons (3-0) will host Spencer in their Cloverbelt Conference East Division opener Friday at Jack Hackman Field at 5 p.m. The two teams will play again Saturday at noon at Spencer.
