SPENCER – Columbus Catholic used a six-run fourth inning to pull ahead and held to defeat Spencer 10-7 in a Cloverbelt Conference East Division baseball game Saturday afternoon at Spencer High School.
The Dons scored three times in the first inning on a bases-loaded walk, a wild pitch and an error, before Spencer took advantage of three Columbus Catholic errors to score four times in the second.
Columbus Catholic was able to forge ahead for good in the fourth, using three walks, a hit batter, an error and a two-run single by Emmitt Konieczny, followed by Cy Becker RBI single to take a 9-4 lead.
Spencer scored three times in the sixth but that was all the closer it would get, falling to 1-5 overall and 0-2 in the Cloverbelt East as it lost to Columbus Catholic for the second day in a row.
Emmitt Konieczny picked up the pitching win for the Dons (5-0, 2-0 Cloverbelt East), striking out six in 4 1/3 innings. Cy Becker earned the save, striking out the side after walking the first two batters in the seventh.
Reed Knecht had a pair of doubles, and Drake Johnson had two hits and two RBI for Spencer.
