AUBURNDALE – Carter Luepke singled home Dalton Post with what proved to be the game-winning run in the top of the eighth inning as the Spencer baseball team snapped a five-game losing streak with a 3-2 in over Auburndale in a nonconference game Monday at Auburndale High School.
Auburndale led 2-0 after scoring twice in the first inning, but that would be all the Eagles could muster as Post tossed six shutout innings following and the Rockets pecked away.
Post delivered a sacrifice fly in the third inning and Zack Roehrbrorn had another sac fly in the sixth for the Rockets, tying the game at 2-2.
Post finished with three strikeouts and three walks in seven innings. After taking the lead in the eighth, Drake Johnson relieved Post before being replaced by Weston Nieman after walking the first two hitters. Nieman coaxed a double play grounder and struck out the final batter to earn the save for Spencer (2-5).
Auburndale saw its four-game winning streak snapped and falls to 4-1 after managing just three hits in the loss.
Spencer will play a Cloverbelt Conference East Division game at Gilman on Tuesday, while Auburndale is off until Friday when it hosts Chequamegon for a nonconference contest.
