MARATHON – An uncharacteristic poor defensive performance proved costly for the Stratford baseball team as it dropped a 12-8 decision to Marathon in a Marawood Conference South Division game Tuesday at Marathon High School.
Stratford scored four times in the opening inning only to see Marathon (7-2, 3-1 Marawood South) storm back as it scored six times in the fourth inning and added three more in the fifth to pull away and salvage the season split after the Tigers won the first meeting 4-0 on Monday.
Stratford (4-2, 1-1 Marawood South) committed nine errors, leading to 10 of Marathon’s 12 runs being unearned.
Jack Tubbs and Brady Berg each had two hits, with Berg driving in two runs for the Tigers.
Tyler Underwood had three of Marathon’s 14 hits and he scored three times.
Stratford will be a home for a nonconference game against Abbotsford at 4:45 p.m. on Friday.
