AUBURNDALE – Auburndale senior Liz Breu led the way for the Apaches with 22 points in a 43-34 win over Marathon in a Marawood Conference South Division girls basketball game Friday night at Auburndale High School.
In the process, Breu also cleared a milestone, passing the 1,000-point mark for her four-year career.
Breu hit 9 of 16 shots from the floor and 4 of 5 from the free-throw line, and threw in six rebounds and two assists for the Apaches, who improve to 9-1 overall and 5-1 in the Marawood South. Marathon falls to 8-3, 3-3 in the conference.
Auburndale busted open a tie game with a 17-6 advantage in the second quarter and maintained the lead throughout the second half.
Kelly Tomfohrde added eight points, four rebounds, four assists and two steals for Auburndale. The Apaches, ranked 10th in the latest Wissports.net Division 4 state poll, hosts Neillsville, ranked seventh in Division 3, on Tuesday in a nonconference game at Auburndale.
