AUBURNDALE – Auburndale scored eight times in the bottom of the sixth inning to bust open a tie game and defeat Newman Catholic 12-4 in a Marawood Conference South Division softball game Tuesday at Auburndale High School.
Regynn Lau had a two-run single in the second inning to give the Eagles a 2-1 lead. Auburndale was up 4-1 before Newman Catholic tied it up with a three-run fifth, keyed by a two-run double by Ashley Jankowski.
The tie score held until the sixth when the Eagles erupted. Lau, Chesney Nagel and Mya Krings had RBI singles and Danika Blomberg hit a three-run inside-the-park home run to break it open as Auburndale, which improves to 6-2 overall and 3-1 in the Marawood South.
Jankowski and Ava Sukanen both had three hits and two RBI for Newman Catholic (1-5, 1-3 Marawood South).
Lau finished 4-for-4 with four RBI, and Taylor Anderson added three hits and scored three times for Auburndale.
Morgan Griesbach earned the pitching win for Auburndale, striking out 11.
Auburndale hosts Chequamegon on Friday.
