MARSHFIELD – Marshfield played a lot of baseball on Thursday and came away with a split against Wausau West.
Wausau West scored in the top of the 10th inning to defeat Marshfield 5-4 in the completion of a game that was suspended due to darkness on Monday in Marshfield, and the Tigers won the regularly-scheduled game, needing 11 innings to prevail 6-3 at Safford Field.
Marshfield is now 2-3 overall and 2-1 in the Wisconsin Valley Conference, while West moves to 2-4 and 2-2 in conference play.
Monday’s game, which started at Safford Field in Marshfield, was tied at 4-4 in the 10th when it was suspended. The Warriors scored on a passed ball in the top of the 10th and Lucas Hager worked around two walks to earn the save with a scoreless bottom of the frame on Thursday.
Travis Klade had two hits for West.
Chase Robinson had a double and two RBI, and Mason Anderson and Owen Griesbach knocked in runs for the Tigers.
In Thursday’s game, which was moved from Wausau West due to wet field conditions, Marshfield’s Jakob Sadowska had an RBI single with two outs in the top of the seventh to tie the game at 3-3, sending it to extras again.
The game remained knotted until the Tigers struck in the top of the 11th. Mason Anderson had an RBI single to plate Dawson Meissner, Sadowska followed with an RBI double and he later came into to score to put Marshfield on top 6-3.
Dayton Bugar finished off the Warriors to notch the victory as he threw five scoreless innings in relief, finishing with five strikeouts. Owen Griesbach started, striking out 10 in six innings.
Meissner, Robinson and Sadowska all had two hits in the win for the Tigers.
Marshfield will play a nonconference game at Mosinee on Tuesday.
