PLOVER – Stevens Point clinched no worse than a share of the Wisconsin Valley Conference softball championship with a 4-0 shutout of Marshfield on Wednesday at Woyak Field.
Maren Sauvageau fired a complete-game three-hit shutout, finishing with five strikeouts and just one walk to lead the way for the undefeated Panthers (19-0, 10-0 WVC).
Katelyn Sternweis suffered the loss for Marshfield (9-11, 4-5 WVC), allowing four runs in 4 1/3 innings.
Stevens Point scored on a wild pitch in the first inning, Aubree Itzen smacked a solo home run in the fourth, and Kaitlyn Klismith had a two-run single in the fifth to provide Stevens Point with all of its offense.
Sternweis, Lillian Griesbach and Madilynn Cole had singles for Marshfield.
Marshfield hosts Wausau East for another WVC game Thursday at 5 p.m. at Madison Field.
