AUBURNDALE – The Auburndale softball team are outright Marawood Conference South Division champions for the first time ever as the Eagles swept a doubleheader over Edgar 8-0 and 6-1 on Thursday at Auburndale High School.
The two wins, combined with Wisconsin Rapids Assumption’s loss to Stratford on Thursday, gives Auburndale the outright Marawood South title with an 8-2 record. Auburndale’s only other softball conference title came when it finished in a three-way tie for first place with Marathon and Assumption in 2019.
Morgan Griesbach picked up the win in both games for the Eagles (14-3 overall), striking out 10 in the Game 1 shutout, and 11 in the nightcap, and she gave up just one run total and five hits in each contest.
Griesbach also went 3-for-3 at the plate in the opener, scoring three times. Mya Krings and Danika Blomberg both added two hits, and Sammy Stanton drove in two for Auburndale in Game 1.
In the second game, Chesney Nagel had three hits and Hope Schulte two singles in Auburndale’s victory.
