MARSHFIELD – Abby Besler and Paige Johnson each had a hat trick and Marshfield dominated Northern Edge (Rhinelander/Antigo co-op) 11-2 in a Great Northern Conference girls hockey game Monday night at the Marshfield Youth Ice Recreation Arena.
Marshfield led 1-0 after a goal by Emily Wolfe, then exploded with four goals in the second period and six more in the third as it wore down the Edge (1-12, 0-8 Great Northern).
Besler had two goals in the second period and Chandler Roy-Peterson and Johnson also netted goals to give the Tigers (11-2, 6-1 Great Northern) a 5-1 lead.
Five different Tigers scored in the third period.
“The girls played a nice team game with good passes and an all-around solid effort,” Marshfield coach Nate Sparbel said. “We definitely showed why our defense is ranked No. 1 in the state. Junior Emily Wolfe and senior Katie Wendlandt have really had some nice defensive games lately. It’s great to see them playing this good of hockey coming into the last few weeks of season.”
Marshfield plays at Northland Pines next Monday.
