Edgar outlasts Columbus Catholic baseball

EDGAR – Edgar scored twice in the fifth and sixth innings to pull past Marshfield Columbus Catholic 5-2 in a nonconference baseball game Monday at Edgar High School.

The Dons took a 1-0 lead in the first inning as Blake Jakobi and Emmitt Konieczny singled, and Jakobi scored on a groundout by Cy Becker.

Edgar tied it in the second inning before Columbus Catholic regained the lead in the fifth on an RBI single by Emmitt Konieczny.

Edgar (10-8) responded with a pair of runs in the bottom of the frame and grabbed two insurance runs in the sixth.

Weather permitting, Columbus Catholic (15-3) will host Abbotsford/Colby for its regular-season finale Tuesday at Jack Hackman Field in Marshfield at 5 p.m.

The Dons open postseason play with a WIAA Division 4 regional quarterfinal at home against Plum City/Elmwood on Thursday at 5 p.m.
