STRATFORD – Austin Hawkins scored 14 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead the Auburndale boys basketball team to a 41-36 win over Stratford in a Marawood Conference South Division game Tuesday night at Stratford High School.
Auburndale led the low-scoring affair 11-10 at halftime before outscoring the Tigers 18-10 in the third quarter to open up a nine-point lead.
Troy Mengel had another solid game inside for Stratford, hitting 8 of 13 shots and scoring 19 points. He also had a team-high nine rebounds.
The difference came from 3-point range. Auburndale was 5 of 15 and Stratford was 0-for-10.
The Apaches improve to 10-2 and 6-1 in the Marawood South, while halting Stratford’s five-game winning streak and knocking the Tigers to 7-5 overall and 3-4 in the conference.
Markus Kleifgen added seven points and eight rebounds for the Apaches, who play at Northland Lutheran on Friday. Stratford plays at Pittsville.
