Stratford, Auburndale, Columbus Catholic, Spencer have multiple sectional qualifiers after top finishes at WIAA Division 3 Marathon Track Regional

MARATHON – Stratford won 10 titles, including three each by freshman Brianna Sherden and junior Jett Schoenherr, and won both the boys and girls team titles at a WIAA Division 3 Track & Field Regional on Monday at Marathon High School.

Sherden won the girls long jump with a leap of 16 feet, 8½ inches, the 100 meters in 12.70 seconds and the 200 meters in 26.25 seconds. She also teamed with Sadie Weigel, Dawnyel Martin and Hailey Fecker to place third in the 400 relay (51.93) to qualify for sectionals on Thursday.

The top four finishers in each event earned spots in a D-3 sectional at Rosholt on Thursday. The top four finishers in each event there will qualify for the 2024 WIAA State Track & Field Championships at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse on May 31-June 1.

Schoenherr won the boys 100 in 11.22 and the 200 in 22.84, and was part of the winning 400 relay team, along with Payton Glenn, Zander Zawislan and Coltan Breit, which won in 43.28 seconds.

Other winners for the Stratford boys were Koehler Kilty in the shot put (51-5¾) and Glenn in the long jump (20-7¾), and Kayla Casperson won the girls 1,600 (5:41.51) and 3,200 (12:38.40) for the Tigers.

Auburndale won four events and will have a total of nine individuals in 10 events, and three relay teams at sectionals.

Earning regional titles for Auburndale were the girls 3,200 relay team of Kennedy Crane, Gracie Hasenohrl, Alana Steines and Rose Hasenohrl (10:22.50), the girls 1,600 relay team of Gracie Hasenohrl, Rose Hasenohrl, Steines and Alivia Wolf (4:15.60), Steines in the girls 800 (2:31.03), and Trevor Trowbridge in the boys 300 hurdles (42.72).

Columbus Catholic junior Isaac Scheer won both the boys 1,600 (4:49.04) and 3,200 (10:14.96), and the Dons had a total of eight sectional qualifiers.

The Stratford girls will have four individuals and another relay team also moving on to sectionals, while the boys will have 12 more individuals and all four of their relay teams traveling to Rosholt as well.

Additional Stratford girls qualifiers include Martin in the 300 hurdles (second, 50.18), Emily Rundle in the triple jump (third, 32-5½), Breleigh Skaya in the 800 (third, 2:33.80), Sadie Weigel in the 100 (third, 13.40), and the 3,200 relay team of Skaya, Jaela Jochimsen, Lily Dabbert and Kaylie McHugh (second, 11:04.63).

Grabbing individual sectional spots for the Stratford boys, in addition to the regional champs, are: Kilty in the discus (141-6), Brandon Knetter (second, 42-9 ½) and Connor Kreft (third, 41-7¾) in the triple jump, Cole Tichy in the 100 (third, 11.88), Cree DeFoe in both the 1,600 (second, 4:51.77) and the 3,200 (second, 10:35.10), Ethan Heeg in the 1,600 (third, 4:58.63), Xander Curtice in the 300 hurdles (third, 45.34) and the high jump (third, 5-8), Kaden Foster in the high jump (second, 5-10), Breit in the long jump (third, 19-8¼), Garrett Zuelke in the 800 (third, 2:07.09), and Austin Niehaus in the 400 (third, 54.84).

In addition to the winning 400 relay team, Stratford will have its 800 relay team of Glenn, Austin O’Neil, Breit and Zawislan (second, 1:32.95), the 1,600 relay team of Niehaus, Zuelke, Foster and Zawislan (second, 3:34.33) and the 3,200 relay team of Heeg, Derek Wiese, Reid Miller and Zuelke (second, 8:35.42) moving on to sectionals.

Other Auburndale sectional qualifiers are: Logan Nagel in the boys discus (second, 142-1), William Akins in the boys pole vault (third, 11-9), the 800 boys relay team of Keegan Empey, Nathan Van Wyhe, Trowbridge and Raymond Teska (third, 1:35.13), Empey in the 200 (fourth, 23.99) and long jump (19-1/4), Rose Hasenohrl in the girls 400 (1:01.00), Denver Korslin in the girls high jump (4-9), Shea Fabisiak in the girls long jump (fourth, 16-7½) and Gracie Hasenohrl in the girls pole vault (fourth, 9-0).

Spencer had four sectional qualifiers, including three from sophomore Autumn Davis.

Davis placed fourth in the girls 200 (28.72) and 400 (1:06.28), and was part of the 800 relay team, along with Alina Jackson, Rachel Nieman and Caitlin Clark, that placed fourth in the 1:54.81.

The Spencer boys 400 relay team of Efrain Olguin-Cano, Alexander Baumgarten, Teddy Meyer and Logan Ehlert also placed fourth in 47.95 to qualify for the sectional meet.

Other sectional qualifiers for Columbus Catholic were the boys 3,200 relay team of Cade Jansen, Elijah Wolf, Seth Roewe (third, 8:35.86), Jansen in the boys 800 (fourth, 2:07.58), Birkhauser in the boys 400 (fourth, 55.02), Nathan Scheer in the boys 3,200 (fourth, 10:58.78), Aubrey Waldhauser in the girls high jump (second, 4-10) and Azariah Hoffman in the girls pole vault (third, 9-0).
