MARSHFIELD – Travis Pischel and Tyler Derfus each had 16 points to lead the Marshfield Columbus Catholic boys basketball team to its eighth-straight win, a 52-35 victory over Loyal in a Cloverbelt Conference East Division game Tuesday night at Columbus Catholic High School.
Pischel scored 10 points in the first quarter and Derfus drilled three 3-pointers in the second quarter as the Dons built a 32-24 lead at the half.
Loyal stayed within 10 heading into the fourth quarter but the Dons held the Greyhounds to three points in the final period and Pischel scored six points to held Columbus ice the victory.
Columbus made eight 3-pointers, four by Tyler Derfus.
The Dons improve to 10-3 and 9-1 in the Cloverbelt East, while Loyal falls to 3-8 and 3-7 in the conference.
The win for first-place Columbus sets up a showdown with Colby (9-1, 8-1 Cloverbelt East), which is in second place, on Friday at Colby.
Mason Froeba had 12 points to lead Loyal.
