MARSHFIELD – The Marshfield Columbus Catholic softball team scored five times in the first two innings and cruised to a 12-2 win over Pittsville in a WIAA Division 5 regional semifinal Wednesday afternoon at the Marshfield Fairgrounds.
The Dons scored twice in the first inning on an RBI single by Shelby Spata and a bunt by Mattea Schlafke, and tacked on three more in the second thanks to two errors and a run-scoring single by Akosua Yeboah.
Columbus Catholic put the game away with a six-run fourth and ended the game by the 10-run rule on an RBI groundout by Yeboah in the fifth.
Yeboah tossed a complete game, striking out five with three walks, and finished with three RBI. Spata had three of Columbus Catholic’s eight hits.
No. 3 seed Columbus Catholic (17-6) will play a D-5 regional final at No. 2 seed Pepin/Alma on Thursday at Pepin High School at 5 p.m.
