Auburndale softball scores seven in sixth inning to defeat Marathon in WIAA Division 4 regional final

AUBURNDALE – The No. 1 seed Auburndale softball team is off to sectionals after a solid 8-2 win over No. 4 seed Marathon in a WIAA Division 4 regional final Thursday at Auburndale High School.

Auburndale pitcher Morgan Griesbach and Marathon’s Allison Podjaski matched zeroes through five innings before the Eagles got things rolling in the sixth.

After Griesbach sent down Marathon in the top of the inning, Auburndale piled on seven runs in the bottom of the frame to take control.

Regynn Lau had a two-run single and Griesbach added an RBI double in the big inning for Auburndale.

Griesbach allowed two runs in the seventh but finished off the victory and ended up with seven strikeouts and no walks.

Auburndale (19-3) will host No. 2 Stratford (20-6) in a D-3 sectional semifinal Tuesday at 5 p.m. at Auburndale High School.
