Columbus Catholic softball loses WIAA Division 5 regional final to Pepin/Alma

PEPIN – The Columbus Catholic softball team had its bid for trip to sectionals denied by Pepin/Alma as the Dons fell 9-4 in a WIAA Division 5 regional final Thursday at Pepin High School.

The Dons led 3-1 after four innings before Pepin/Alma scored four times in both the fifth and sixth innings to pull away.

The No. 2 seed Pepin/Alma (18-5) moves on to a D-5 sectional semifinal at No. 1 seed Wisconsin Rapids Assumption (13-6) on Tuesday. The No. 3 seed Columbus Catholic finishes its season with a 17-7 record.

Akosua Yeboah suffered the loss on the mound for the Dons, finishing with nine strikeouts in a complete-game effort.

Sam Casperson and Mattea Schlafke each had two hits for Columbus Catholic.

Lauren Carlson had four hits and knocked in two runs for Pepin/Alma.
