HUDSON – Marshfield will have four athletes at next week’s state meet after they earned five top-three finishes at a WIAA Division 1 Track & Field Sectional on Thursday at Hudson High School.

Junior Ethan Knecht earned the Tigers’ lone sectional title as he won the boys shot put with a toss of 55 feet. Knecht also placed third in the discus with a throw of 142-10 to also advance to state.

The top three finishers in each event at the sectional automatically qualify for the 2024 WIAA State Track & Field Championships, which will be held at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse on May 31-June 1. Additional qualifiers – those who finish in the top eight statewide in all of the sectionals – will be announced on Friday.

The Marshfield girls will send three athletes to state after each earned runner-up finishes.

Emma Ridgway placed second in the high jump (5-2), Devyn LeMoine was second in the pole vault (10-3) and Olivia Page took second in the 200 meters in 26.47 seconds to advance for the Tigers.
