Stratford earns 12 state meet berths, Auburndale grabs five, Columbus Catholic four at WIAA Division 3 Rosholt Track Sectional

ROSHOLT – Stratford won five events and earned 12 state meet berths at the WIAA Division 3 Track & Field Sectional on Thursday at Rosholt High School.

The top four finishers in each event at the sectional automatically qualify for the 2024 WIAA State Track & Field Championships, which will be held at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse on May 31-June 1. Additional qualifiers – those who finish in the top eight statewide in all of the sectionals – will be announced on Friday.

Auburndale had five state meet berths and Columbus Catholic grabbed three with top-four finishes Thursday.

Stratford freshman Brianna Sherden won both the girls long jump with a leap of 17 feet, 1½ inches, and the 100 meters in 12.60 seconds, while placing second in the 200 in 26.57 seconds to lead the charge for the Tigers.

The Stratford boys also picked up three victories as Koehler Kilty won the shot put (52-4¼), the 3,200-meter relay team of Ethan Heeg, Derek Wiese, Reid Miller and Garrett Zuelke was first in 8:22.36, and the 800 relay team of Payton Glenn, Zander Zawislan, Coltan Breit and Jett Schoenherr finished first in 42.94 seconds.

Schoenherr also advanced in both the 100 (second, 11.03) and 200 (second, 22.38), while Breit made it to state in the long jump (20-9½).

The Tigers’ 800 relay team of Glenn, Austin O’Neil, Breit and Zawislan placed second in 1:31.09, and the 1,600 team of Austin Niehaus, Zuelke, Kaden Foster and Zawislan took third in 3:29.98 to also grab state meet berths.

Dawnyel Martin also advanced for the Stratford girls, taking third in the 300 hurdles in 49.22 seconds.

Auburndale will send three individuals and two girls relay teams to state.

Logan Nagel placed fourth in the boys discus (140-9), Trevor Trowbridge took third in the boys 300 hurdles (42.27), and Rose Hasenohrl placed third in the girls 400 (1:00.54) to qualify for the Eagles.

Auburndale’s 3,200-meter girls relay team of Kennedy Crane, Gracie Hasenohrl, Alana Steines and Rose Hasenohrl placed fourth in 10:04.31, and the 1,600 team of the Hasenohrl sisters, Steines and Alivia Wolf took third in 4:13.00.

Isaac Scheer will run at state in two events for Columbus Catholic after he was the runner-up in the 3,200 (9:54.65) and fourth in the 1,600 (4:26.04). Also qualifying for state for the Dons was the boys 3,200 relay team of Cade Jansen, Elijah Wolf, Seth Roewe and Cal Birkhauser, which took second in 8:27.61.

Spencer did not have any state meet qualifiers.
