RIVER FALLS – No. 14 seed Marshfield had the No. 3 seed River Falls on the ropes, but couldn’t find enough offense to pull off the upset in a WIAA Division 1 baseball regional semifinal on Tuesday at 1st National Bank Stadium.
Cayden Mueller tripled with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning and Ty Manninen followed with a single to give the Wildcats a walk-off 1-0 win, their 10th in a row.
River Falls (20-4) will host No. 6 seed Chippewa Falls (14-11) for a regional final on Thursday. Marshfield ends its season with a 5-19 record.
River Falls starter Auden Pankonin threw 6 1/3 no-hit innings before giving way to Tyler Nelson. Marshfield’s Bryce Schade greeted him with a single, but that would be the Tigers’ only hit in the game.
Marshfield pitcher Owen Griesbach was masterful as well, allowing just one hit – a single in the first inning – before the two hits in the seventh led to the Wildcats’ win. Griesbach finished with six strikeouts and one walk.
