Marshfield girls soccer pummels Wausau East in WIAA Division 2 regional semifinal

MARSHFIELD – The No. 3 seed Marshfield had little trouble with Wisconsin Valley Conference rival Wausau East, the No. 6 seed, cruising to an 8-0 win in a WIAA Division 2 girls soccer regional semifinal Tuesday at Heiting Community Stadium.

The Tigers (7-8-4) move on to a regional final at No. 2 seed River Falls (10-3-7) on Saturday at 7 p.m. River Falls rolled to a 12-0 win over Altoona/Fall Creek on Tuesday.

Lauryn Katzenberger scored twice and six others added goals for Marshfield.

Katzenberger scored at the 6:41 mark and Grace Taylor followed up eighth minutes later to make it 2-0.

Hannah Glass, Katzenberger and Lauren Homolka added goals before halftime to up the Tigers’ lead to 5-0.

Presley Franklin, Abby Ongna and Claire Malone all scored in the first 17 minutes of the second half as the Tigers finished off the win, which was called due to the eight-goal mercy rule after 60 minutes.

Shiloh Smith finished with three assists and Franklin had two assists in the win for Marshfield.

“I was extremely proud of our ball control and discipline on the field tonight,” Marshfield coach Kelly Ongna said.
