LA CROSSE – Stratford won the boys 400-meter relay, collected three other medals and was the team runner-up in Division 3 at the final day of the 2024 WIAA State Track & Field Championships on Saturday at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse.
Stratford’s 400 relay team of Payton Glenn, Zander Zawislan, Coltan Breit and Jett Schoenherr won the Division 3 race in 42.54 seconds to cap off a big day for the Tigers.
Schoenherr placed third in the 200 (22.22 seconds) and fourth in the 100 (11.24), and the 800 relay team of Glenn, Austin O’Neil, Breit and Zawislan took third in 1:30.54 as the Tigers racked up 34 points to finish second behind Iola-Scandinavia, which had three individual champions and totaled 45 points. Edgar, Stratford’s Marawood Conference rival, placed third with 32 points.
Coltan Breit placed seventh in the D-3 boys long jump (20 feet, 4¼ inches) and Koehler Kilty competed in the shot put for Stratford but did not record a legal throw.
Columbus Catholic junior Isaac Scheer picked up his second state meet medal. After taking fifth in the Division 3 boys 3,200 meters on Friday, Scheer placed fourth in the 1,600 on Saturday, running the mile in 4:26.48.
Stratford freshman Brianna Sherden also grabbed a state medal as she placed fifth in the girls 100 meters, running in 12.99 seconds. Sherden also placed 10th in the 200-meter finals in 26.27 seconds.
Auburndale’s Trevor Trowbridge placed ninth in the D-3 boys 300-meter hurdles (42.11) and the girls 3,200 relay team of Kennedy Crane, Gracie Hasenohrl, Alana Steines and Rose Hasenohrl placed 11th in 10:04.74.
Marshfield’s two remaining competitors did not medal in Division 1. Junior Devyn LeMoine failed to clear a height in the girls pole vault, while fellow junior Ethan Knecht placed 14th in the boys shot put with a toss of 51 feet, ½ inch.
Other boys team champions were Hartland Arrowhead (Division 1) and Lakeside Lutheran (Division 2).
Arrowhead also won the girls Division 1 team title, with Freedom and Rice Lake tying for the D-2 championship, and Deerfield won the Division 3 crown.
