HOLMEN – The Marshfield Post 54 Senior Legion baseball team opened its 2024 season losing both ends of a doubleheader to Holmen on Sunday.
Holmen won a slugfest 11-10 in 11 innings in the opener and took the second game 7-1.
Marshfield led 4-0 after 5½ innings of Game 1 before Holmen fought back to tie the game. Both teams scored a run in the seventh, sending it to extras.
Marshfield plated four runs in the top of the ninth, which included a two-run single by Emmitt Konieczny, three walks, two hit batters and a wild pitch.
However, the Blue Devils could not hold on as Holmen answered with four in the bottom of the frame and eventually won it in the bottom of the 11th.
Chase Robinson and Aden Cherney both had two hits for Marshfield.
In Game 2, Marshfield took a 1-0 lead in the first inning but that would be all it would get.
Holmen scored seven times in the fourth inning and the game was called after five innings. Marshfield was held to four hits in the loss.
Marshfield is back in action at home Tuesday against Plover. Game time at Jack Hackman Field is 7 p.m.
