Iola-Scandinavia track athlete Jensen Rice has been voted the Zaleski Sports & MarshfieldAreaSports.com High School Athlete of the Month for May.
MarshfieldAreaSports.com & Zaleski Sports co-sponsor the award, which is in its 11th year.
Varsity athletes from the following high schools are eligible to be nominated for the award: Abbotsford, Amherst, Athens, Assumption, Auburndale, Colby, Columbus Catholic, D.C. Everest, Edgar, Granton, Greenwood, Iola-Scandinavia, Loyal, Marathon, Marshfield, Mosinee, Neillsville, Pacelli, Pittsville, Port Edwards, Rosholt, Spencer, Stratford, Stevens Point, Waupaca, Newman Catholic, Wild Rose, Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln and Wittenberg-Birnamwood.
Rice received 2,843 of the nearly 5,800 votes cast during voting from June 3-10 at MarshfieldAreaSports.com.
Other nominees for the May award were: Auburndale baseball player Aden Cherney, Columbus Catholic track athlete Isaac Scheer, Stratford track athlete Jett Schoenherr, Mosinee softball player Ava Busse and Pacelli softball player Hannah Trzinski.
Rice, a sophomore, won two Division 3 state titles and earned another medal at the WIAA State Track & Field Championships. Rice won the D-3 100 meters in 10.94 seconds and the 110-meter high hurdles in 14.60 seconds, while teaming with Izyck Olson, Ryan Kampert and Aiden Bowen to take fourth the 400-meter relay for the Thunderbirds.
