STEVENS POINT – A late comeback attempt from the Marshfield Post 54 Senior American Legion baseball team fell short as Stevens Point held on for a 5-3 win in a Wisconsin Valley Legion Conference game Wednesday at Bukolt Park.

Stevens Point took a 5-1 lead in the fourth before the Blue Devils (0-4) tried to scratch their way back in the game.

Adam Gilbertson led off the sixth with a double, moved to third on a single by Chase Robinson and scored on a double play groundball, cutting the Sixers’ lead to 5-2.

In the seventh, Nathan Richardson had a one-out single, took second on a passed ball and scored on a single by Mac Konieczny. Stevens Point reliever Noah Marschke shut the door, however, striking out the final to batters to earn the save for starter Caden Adam.

Emmitt Konieczny went the distance on the mound for Marshfield, striking out eight while allowing five runs and eight hits.

The two teams will play again Friday at the Wisconsin Rapids Tournament at Lincoln High School starting at 5 p.m.
