MARSHFIELD – Wisconsin Rapids hurler Brett Simonsen took a no-hitter into the seventh inning and finished with a complete-game shutout as the Rangers topped Marshfield 3-0 in a Senior American Legion baseball game Tuesday at Jack Hackman Field.

Bryce Erickson reached on an error in the second inning for Marshfield, the only Blue Devils player to reach base over the first six innings against Simonsen.

Chase Robinson broke up the no-hitter with a single to lead off the bottom of the seventh. After two outs, Marshfield loaded the bases as Erickson again reached on an error and Cain Toufar walked, but Simonsen coaxed a ground ball to end it and finish off a one-hit shutout.

Simonsen finished with six strikeouts and just the one walk.

Jordan Szelagowski had a sacrifice fly in the second inning, Kaleb Ellis had an RBI single in the third, and Braden Lewis singled to knock in a run in the fifth to account for Wisconsin Rapids’ scoring against Marshfield pitcher Aden Cherney, who struck out eight in six innings.

Marshfield (2-7) returns to action Thursday at D.C. Everest.
