Marshfield Junior Legion splits doubleheader with Wisconsin Rapids

MARSHFIELD – The Marshfield Junior Legion baseball team split a doubleheader with Wisconsin Rapids on Thursday night at Hackman Field.

Wisconsin Rapids cruised to a 17-6 win in Game 1 before Marshfield gained the split with an 8-5 victory in the second game, moving to 5-5 this season.

In the opener, Wisconsin Rapids scored seven times in the top of the first inning only to see Marshfield scratch out five in the bottom of the frame.

Rapids led 8-6 heading into the fifth when it poured on nine more and ended the game via the 10-run rule after a shutdown bottom of the fifth.

Tyler Kremer, Easton Ledden and Kallen Steinbach each had two hits in the loss for Marshfield.

In Game 2, Marshfield scored all eight of its runs in the first three innings and held on the rest of the way.

Devin Cherney picked up the pitching victory with six innings on the mound, Tyler Kumm had two hits and Bryce Schade scored three runs for the Blue Devils.

Marshfield will play another doubleheader Friday at D.C. Everest beginning at 5:30 p.m.
