MARSHFIELD – The Marshfield Post 54 Senior Legion baseball team split a doubleheader with Medford on Monday night at Jack Hackman Field, winning Game 1 5-4 before Medford turned the tables with an 8-1 victory in the nightcap.
Two walks and an error led to an RBI groundout by Andrew Sieracki to give Marshfield a 1-0 lead in the second inning of the opener.
After Medford scored twice in the fourth to take the lead, Marshfield responded with a three-run fifth.
Blake Raab scored on a passed ball, Emmitt Konieczny delivered a sacrifice fly and Adam Gilbertson had an RBI single to put the Blue Devils on top, 4-2.
Marshfield tacked on another run in the sixth on a Raab RBI single before Medford put together a rally.
After scoring twice, Medford loaded the bases before Marshfield reliever Jakob Sadowska coaxed a fielder’s choice ground ball to end the game and save the win for Mac Konieczny. Konieczny went 6 2/3 innings, striking out four.
In Game 2, Emmitt Konieczny had an RBI single to put the Blue Devils (8-11) on the board in the first inning, but that would be all Marshfield would get.
Medford scored twice in the second, third, fifth and seventh innings and pounded out 13 hits to pull away and salvage the split of the twinbill.
Emmitt Konieczny went 3-for-3, accounting for three of Marshfield’s four hits in the loss.
Marshfield will play at Plover on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
