Stratford Legion baseball splits doubleheader at Marathon

MARATHON – The Stratford Legion baseball team split a doubleheader at Marathon on Monday, winning the opener 5-1 before dropping Game 2 in heartbreaking fashion, 6-5.

Stratford used a four-run sixth inning to break a 1-1 tie to win Game 1.

Brady Schmidt earned the win with two shutout innings of relief and four strikeouts.

Jack Tubbs hit a home run and scored twice, and Brady Berg had two hits for Stratford.

In the second game, Stratford pulled ahead 5-2 with a three-run fifth, only to see Marathon score four in the bottom to earn a walk-off win.

Riley Spindler had three hits, and he and Jack Remus each drove in two runs for Stratford (5-4).

Weather permitting, Stratford will host Loyal at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Tiger Stadium Baseball Field.
