AUBURNDALE – The Auburndale girls basketball team fought back from a one-point deficit entering the fourth quarter to beat Stratford 38-32 in a Marawood Conference South Division game Thursday night at Auburndale High School.
Stratford led 18-17 at halftime and 26-25 entering the fourth quarter before the Apaches used a 13-6 advantage to pull off the victory, their 10th of the season.
Auburndale improves to 10-2 and 6-1 in the Marawood South, while Stratford falls to 4-8 and 1-6 in the conference.
Liz Breu had 12 points and Kayleigh Kundinger added 11 for the Apaches, who did most of their damage from the free-throw line, making 14 of 16. Auburndale was just 11 of 35 from the field.
Stratford shot a little better, making 13 of 33, but was only 4 of 8 from the free-throw line.
Hannah Schmitt had eight points, Sara Griesbach and Haley Austin added seven points each and Carrie Stroetz grabbed 10 rebounds for Stratford.
Stratford has a nonconference game at Abbotsford on Tuesday, while Auburndale is off until Friday, Jan. 28, when it hosts Northland Lutheran.
