WISCONSIN RAPIDS – For the second-straight day, the sixth inning spelled doom for the Marshfield Post 54 Senior Legion baseball team.
After giving up seven runs in the sixth inning of an 8-2 loss to Plover on Monday, Marshfield surrendered a five-spot to Wisconsin Rapids in the sixth on Tuesday and fell 8-3 to the Rangers in a Wisconsin Valley Legion Conference matchup at Lincoln High School.
Marshfield led 3-1 after Nathan Richardson had a sacrifice fly to plate Bryce Erickson and Blake Raab singled home Caleb Schaefer in the fourth inning.
Wisconsin Rapids (10-7, 7-3 WVLC) responded with two runs in the bottom of the fourth and pulled away with a five-run sixth that saw Marshfield pitchers walk three and its defense commit a two-out error.
Marshfield (10-13, 1-7 WVLC) will host Wausau on Thursday at Jack Hackman Field. The Junior game begins at 5:30 p.m. with the Senior teams to follow at approximately 8 p.m.
