EAU CLAIRE – Green Bay Southwest scored five runs in the bottom of the fifth inning and went on to defeat Marshfield 8-4 on the opening day of the three-day Eau Claire Legion Baseball Tournament on Friday at Carson Park.
Marshfield led 4-3 after scoring three runs in the top of the fifth. Chase Robinson had a sacrifice fly to plate Nathan Richardson, Owen Griesbach had an RBI single and Emmitt Konieczny, who walked earlier, scored on a fielder’s choice by Bryce Erickson to give the Blue Devils the lead.
Southwest responded with a five-run bottom of the fifth thanks to a hit batter, a walk and four hits.
Marshfield didn’t score in its final two at-bats, dropping to 11-14 this season.
Marshfield will play Winona (Minn.) LeJetz at 10 a.m. and Eau Claire at 8 p.m. on Saturday, and wrap up the tournament with a 1:30 p.m. game Sunday against De Pere.
