Marshfield Junior Legion drops pair at Chippewa Falls tournament

CHIPPEWA FALLS – The Marshfield Junior Legion baseball team dropped a pair of games at the Chippewa Falls Invitational on Saturday at Casper Park.

Marshfield lost a slugfest to Superior 20-13 and were shut out by Chippewa Falls 11-0, falling to 12-11 this season.

In the opening game against Superior, the game was scoreless through three innings before it got crazy.

Superior scored six times in the fourth before Marshfield responded with eight runs. After Superior regained the lead with three runs in the fifth, the Blue Devils scored four times, taking a 12-9 lead.

It didn’t last long as Superior poured on six runs in the sixth inning and five more in the seventh to pull away.

Easton Ledden, Mason Anderson, Tyler Kumm, Josh Taylor and Brennen Welch each had two hits in the loss for Marshfield.

The Blue Devils were held to two hits in the loss to Chippewa Falls, which ended after five innings due to the 10-run rule.

Marshfield will wrap up play at the tournament Sunday against Wausau at 1:30 p.m.
