MARSHFIELD – Marshfield High School announced a pair of new coaching hires as Matt Immerfall returns as varsity boys hockey coach and Ben Corcoran moves from an assistant coach to head coach of the boys track & field team.

Immerfall, who coached the Tigers hockey team from 2006-09, takes over for Eric Bowman. Bowman coached Marshfield for the past 10 seasons, which included three-straight 10-win seasons and one of the best years in program history when the Tigers finished 16-8-1 in 2018-19.

Immerfall has remained involved at the youth hockey level over the past 10 years, as well as serving as a varsity baseball and football assistant coach.

Immerfall, a 2000 graduate of Marshfield High School, still holds two Tigers hockey records – 20 consecutive games with a point and two consecutive games with a hat trick.

The Marshfield boys hockey team’s season begins Nov. 26 at Baldwin-Woodville.

“I am honored to return as the boys head hockey coach at Marshfield High School,” Immerfall said in a statement provided by the Marshfield High School Athletic Department. “This program has a special place in my heart, and I am eager to work with our talented players to achieve our goals and build for the future.”

Corcoran replaces Randy Hartwig as the varsity boys track coach after Hartwig served 30 seasons as a track coach at multiple levels within the district.

Corcoran brings a wealth of experience, which includes 14 years as a track & field coach, including two as head coach at Auburndale and the last 10 years as an assistant at Marshfield, as well as 12 seasons as an assistant football coach at both Auburndale and Marshfield.

Corcoran, a fifth-grade teacher at Madison Elementary School, is eager to begin his tenure. “Becoming the Marshfield High School boys track and field coach is an incredible and humbling opportunity,” he said. “I am committed to helping our student-athletes achieve their personal best, both on and off the field, just as my coaches did when I walked the halls at MHS. My philosophy centers on winning with integrity, fostering sportsmanship, and maintaining discipline.”

“We are excited to welcome Coach Immerfall back to Marshfield High School,” Marshfield High School Athletic Director Nathan DeLany said. “His leadership and dedication to the sport of hockey make him the right fit for our hockey program. We look forward to seeing our team thrive under his guidance.

“We are also excited for Coach Corcoran’s new role. His experience and dedication to the holistic development of student-athletes make him an ideal fit for our track and field program. We are confident that he will inspire our athletes to reach their full potential.”
