Marshfield Junior Legion wins 17U regional opener over Wausau in nine innings

IOLA – Drew Lang singled to drive in Mason Anderson in the bottom of the ninth inning to give the Marshfield Junior American Legion baseball a 7-6 win over Wausau in a first-round game at the 17U regional on Thursday.

Bryce Schade knocked in a pair of runs with a double in the bottom of the sixth inning to tie the game at 5-5. Schade finished 4-for-5 as Marshfield had 13 hits.

Wausau scored once in the top of the eighth only to see the Blue Devils tie it again when Tyler Kremer was hit by a pitch, went to second on a wild pitch and scored on an error.

In the eighth, Anderson led off with a single, moved up a base on a wild pitch and came home on Lang’s single to walk-off the win for Marshfield.

Dayton Bugar picked up the pitching win, allowing one run in five innings of relief with three strikeouts.

Marshfield (15-11) will play at 7:30 p.m. Saturday.
