WESTON – Marshfield scored seven times in the second inning and pitcher Blake Raab did the rest as the Blue Devils rolled past Wisconsin Rapids 9-1 in their opening game of a Class AAA American Legion Baseball Regional on Wednesday afternoon at Simon Field.
Marshfield had seven-straight hits to start the top of the second inning, with Aden Cherney, Bryce Erickson, Raab and Chase Robinson picking up RBI. Another run scored on an error on Raab’s single, Raab scored on a passed ball and Cain Toufar tacked on another RBI single to put the Blue Devils on top 7-0.
Raab went the distance on the mound for Marshfield (17-18), striking out two and walking two, while scattering six hits and giving up just one run, that coming in the fourth inning on an RBI single by Jackson Laskowski.
Robinson added another RBI on a single in the seventh as he finished 3-for-4 with two doubles and two runs scored.
Emmitt Konieczny, Toufar and Raab all added two hits each for the Blue Devils, which finished with 13 in all.
Marshfield will take on Wausau (15-21) at 7 p.m. Thursday in a winners’ bracket game as the double-elimination tournament continues.
