STRATFORD – Stratford pounded out 10 hits, scored in each of the first four innings, and rolled to an 11-4 win in its opening game at the Class A American Legion Baseball Regional at the Tiger Stadium Baseball Field.
Stratford (10-7) will take on Crandon in a winners’ bracket game at 4 p.m. Saturday as the four-day double-elimination tournament continues.
Stratford struck first with a run in the opening inning on a sacrifice fly by Henry Zaleski.
Stratford then poured on three more in the second, which included a two-RBI triple by Riley Spindler, and added five runs in the fourth.
Landon Zawislan had an RBI double, and with two outs, Riley Kroening drove in Zawislan, Alec Chapel had a two-run single, and Spindler followed with an RBI double to give Stratford a 9-0 lead.
After Tomahawk scored its first run in the top of the fourth, Stratford scored two more in the bottom of the inning on an RBI groundout by Brady Schmidt and a wild pitch.
Four Stratford pitchers combined on a two-hitter, with starter Christian Rehm striking out six in 3 1/3 innings and Zawislan whiffing four in 2 1/3 innings on the mound.
The winner of the tournament moves on to the Wisconsin Class A State Legion Baseball Tournament in Osseo, which will be played Aug. 2-6.
