STRATFORD – The Stratford Legion baseball team is heading to state for the second year in a row after winning the Class A Regional at its home park in walk-off fashion on Monday.
After Clintonville overcame a six-run deficit to tie the game, Brady Berg walked with the bases loaded and two outs in the bottom of the seventh to give Stratford a 7-6 win at the Tiger Stadium Baseball Field.
Stratford (13-7) moves on to the 2024 Wisconsin Class A American Legion Baseball State Tournament at Osseo, which begins Friday and will run through Aug. 6. Stratford will take on Baldwin at 4 p.m.
Stratford took a 2-0 lead on an RBI double by Jack Tubbs and a run-scoring single by Berg in the third inning.
Stratford upped its advantage in the fourth. Jaeger Ormond had an RBI single, Brady Schmidt scored on a fielder’s choice, and two more came in on an error to give Stratford a 6-0 lead.
Clintonville came back with a four-run inning the fifth and then made things dramatic in the top of the seventh.
Kade Rossenow had an RBI double and Andrew Lederer walked with the bases loaded before Riley Kroening was able to get the final two outs without any further damage.
Christian Rehm walked to lead off the bottom of the seventh for Stratford and after a strikeout, Alec Chapel reached on a free pass as well. Following a pop up, Tubbs singled to load the bases and Berg walked to send home the game winner and Stratford to state again.
Henry Zaleski had three hits, and Tubbs and Ormond both had two for Stratford.
