WISCONSIN RAPIDS – Marshfield Post 54’s special postseason run came to an end with a 10-1 loss to Wisconsin Rapids Post 9 on Thursday at Lincoln High School.
Gage Honeyager (five innings) and Trevor Linzmeier (two innings) combined on a one-hitter for Wisconsin Rapids (22-10).
Marshfield’s lone hit was a leadoff single by Bryce Erickson in the second inning.
Wisconsin Rapids jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning against Marshfield pitcher Owen Griesbach, as three walks, a hit batter, and a bases-loaded three0run double by Braden Lewis gave the Rangers the early advantage.
Rapids added two more in the second, chasing Griesbach from the game after a two-RBI single by Canon Plawman.
Then the rains came, delaying play for more than two hours. When play resumed, the Blue Devils were unable to get any offense going.
Two walks and a passed ball led to Marshfield’s only run in the fifth inning.
The Rangers added another run in the fourth and scored three times in the sixth thanks to a sacrifice fly by Honeyager, and RBI groundout by Jackson Laskowski and an error on the same play.
Marshfield, playing in its second state tournament in the past three seasons and 12th overall, finishes the summer with a 20-22 record.
Wisconsin Rapids will play Friday against Eau Claire at 7 p.m. Eau Claire is the lone undefeated team in the tournament.
