STRATFORD – The Stratford football team began its quest for a third-straight state title with a dominating 30-6 nonconference win over Mosinee in its 2024 season and home opener on Friday night at Tiger Stadium.
Quarterback Jacks Tubbs ran for a touchdown and threw for two more as the Tigers rolled to the win.
Caleb Wrensch started the scoring with a 24-yard touchdown run midway through the first quarter, and Tubbs tossed a 16-yard TD pass to Jett Schoenherr in the second to give Stratford a 14-0 lead.
After Mosinee scored on a 1-yard plunge by Carter Fandrey cut the Tigers’ lead to 14-6, Stratford took advantage of a pass interference call on Mosinee as time ran out in the first half. Reid Miller booted a 30-yard field goal on the untimed down to end the half as the Tigers went up 17-6.
Stratford’s defense stymied Mosinee the rest of the way and Tubbs led the Tigers to two more scores in the second half.
Tubbs busted through multiple Mosinee defenders to scamper 46 yards for a touchdown midway through the third quarter and capped off the big night with an 8-yard scoring strike to a wide open Alec Chapel with about 8 minutes to go in the fourth.
Wrensch finished with 92 yards and Tubbs added 76 on the ground for Stratford, which racked up 313 yards rushing.
Stratford will play its final nonconference game Friday, Aug. 30, at Edgar.
